World Backup Day 2024

It is March 31st. This means that today is World Backup Day. As an Ops Engineer (aka: ops Monkey) working with Backup & Disaster Recovery Services, it seems only fitting that I choose today, to launch this blog.

What to expect from this site?

This site and the blog on it is created to share the knowledge & opinions of my work as an IT professional.
Expect a heavy emphasize on Backup & Disaster Recovery using Veeam software, as well as random PowerShell scripts & How-To guides to fix specific issues I have encountered.

What is World Backup Day?

As mentioned, today is World Backup Day, but what does that actually mean? It means that on 31st of March, Backup admins & other (cool) people concerned about data loss, data integrity & disaster recovery rise up and promote the use of backups to secure your precious data

Because:

“Real friends don’t let friends go without a backup.”

from: https://www.worldbackupday.com/

So, if you stumbled upon this site, and have no Idea what backups are, why you should create them, or just need the How-To, head over to https://www.worldbackupday.com/ to read up on it.

There you will find a quick overview of why you should protect your data with backups, and some suggestions of which products/services you could use, depending on your needs, when choosing a Backup Solution. Read more here: https://www.worldbackupday.com/en/best-backup-software

And remember: When starting out with data protection, the most important aspect is not choosing the right service or product right away, but instead it is the intent to actually protect your data and possible your business, from the impact of a data loss disaster. So, the very first thing you could do, is a simple as keeping a second copy of your data, somewhere safe. This could be an external (unplugged) data drive, or a fancy cloud solution. It dos not really matter, as long as you have that second copy of your data.

And if you are an IT professional, and need more information, keep coming back to this blog, as I will dive deep into many aspects of how to secure and protect data, as well as the considerations and policies needed for creating a solid backup & disaster recovery strategy.
